spell#7 was established in Singapore in 1997 by Kaylene Tan (Singapore) and Paul Rae (UK). Over the years, the company developed a distinctive and inventive focus on the ways history, culture and politics intersect in everyday life through intimate theatrical performances and environmental soundworks.
Their latest project together is a short film, Double Life, part of the Life In A Cloud Anthology created in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Paul is currently Associate Professor in Theatre Studies at the University of Melbourne, and the author of Theatre and Human Rights (2009) and Real Theatre: Essays in Experience (2019). His academic writing is available here.
Kaylene works freelance as a writer for theatre, film and TV, content developer and producer. Some of her performance works can be found here.
