In the Silence of Your Heart

5-9 April, Esplanade Studio Theatre, Studios Season

“an innovative, sensory experience… gloriously sensorial and evocative.” - bakchormeeboy.com, Review

“a nuanced experiment in sound … pushing the limits of what sound can do in a theatrical setting.”- Benson Ang, The Straits Times Life!, A Play about Silence that Speaks Volumes

“The piece demands that the audience sit with its frustrations and desire for constant stimulation just as its dynamic protagonist does, and then, as Thian turns inward, allows us to drift through worlds within worlds of memories within memories. It suggests that the world within may be larger than the world beyond.”- Corrie Tan, artsequator.com, The Loud Echo of “In the Silence of Your Heart”

About the Production

Thian has been paralysed for thirteen years. He’s been still and silent all this time but his mind has not stopped dancing. He gets by with the two things he does have: his memory and his imagination. Today, his world is trembling. It is the birth day of his dead daughter and there is a hole in his foot.

Wakeful and dreaming, he relives his life’s triumphs, passions and betrayals. But at the heart of his meandering memories, is a question: have I disappointed as a father? When the day is done, he remembers one last story… this one’s for the road.

Meditative and operatic, In the Silence of Your Heart is a multi-sensory headphone experience for the theatre.

The production was commissioned and presented by Esplanade Theatres on the Bay, Singapore.
